Hello Miss Uganda North America Friends and Family!
The current COVID-19 pandemic has driven the world to a standstill the like of which has never been anticipated. Economies have halted, Breadwinners have lost jobs, Families have been driven to hunger and homelessness, and many people worldwide have lost loved ones to either the disease or the secondary effects of it – including the inability to access or afford proper nutrition and quality health care in current circumstances.
We send hugs to everyone that has been affected, and join you in the hope for better days to come as researchers race to find a vaccine and governments worldwide start looking into safe re-opening strategies. In the same vein, we would like to recognize the efforts of all those on the frontline of the COVID-19 fight. Thank you nurses, doctors, researchers, paramedics, law enforcement and all other essential workers that have put their lives on the line to help the world overcome this pandemic. We are proud to say that women are playing a key role in all these areas, including as leaders.
We feel lucky that the Miss Uganda North America Leadership Program successfully completed the 2020 Cares Tour of Uganda, featuring our Queen Vanessa Nansamba and Miss Oregon USA Katerina Villegas, in March. We have compiled some highlights for you here. Special thanks to our sponsors, partners, friends and family that made all this possible. Also special thanks to Vanessa and Katerina for using their platforms so gracefully to empower women and girls globally. You can visit their Instagram profiles at @beingnaturallynessa and @katerinavillegas respectively to see what they are up to.
Due to the challenges that this COVID-19 pandemic has created, we have made the difficult decision to not hold the 2020 edition of the Miss Uganda North America beauty pageant. Queen Vanessa Nansamba will continue to serve as the 2020/21 queen. We will work with her and all other queens and program ambassadors to keep our programs running as smoothly as possible. We are proud of this family of young women leaders who continue to remind us why this program was much needed – together they are accomplishing so much for themselves and for each other every day. And in such challenging times, their sisterhood is an important source of support, strength and courage.
We hope that you will continue to stay safe by practicing social distancing and proper hygiene. Use online resources and resources around you, friends and family to uplift each other, and to help our young ones to understand and get through this situation as well. Most of all, situations like this require us to be exceptionally kind to ourselves and to each other. We are all in this together.
Thank you for your love and support.
