Looking good is not all about working out and managing diet. It is most importantly about self-concept.
What one thinks about themselves is what determines the choices one makes, results one gets and the life one ultimately lives.
Looking good is not all about working out and managing diet. It is most importantly about self-concept. This means an idea to the self, constructed from the beliefs one holds about oneself and the responses of others. Self-concept is a very important factor in living a healthy life and also improving body image and self-esteem. When it comes to building esteem and body image, it is important for people to deal with their own self-concept.
What one thinks about themselves is what determines the choices one makes, results one gets and the life one ultimately lives. For example, imagine someone who is trying to lose weight, she may be has a history of yo-yo dieting, she keeps blaming herself for not having enough will power to ever successfully keep weight off. Deep down she is looking at herself as weak-willed. Despite the weight loss she achieves, she always somehow gains the weight back and return to being the person that she believes she is.
So, the problem is not lack of effort or lack of information, her problem is self-concept because she sees herself as someone who will fail and trying to fix the problem by telling her to worker harder is liking trying to fix your cough by re-starting your internet router. It won’t do a damn thing to help it will just make you feel like a frustrated person who doesn’t understand how the world works.
All in all, you can’t outsmart your self-concept. It is very important to have a positive one – for better or for worse.
